AI Order Taker

This AI order taker was a project that I worked on with a company that had AI software for drive through restaurants. They needed a housing to hold their electronics that would be installed in the back of a fast food restaurant. It had a large touch screen on the front and it needed to be reasonably well sealed from the sorts of fluids that happen in restaurants.

One of the challenges is that the company wanted the machine to look good. Their direction was to make it look like an iMac from the front. It also had to be locked from employees so they didn't break it and so they didn't get electrocuted. I ended up designing a magnetic latching system that was activated by a magnetic key on the outside. The correct key would release 4 separate latches at the same time and allow the front of the device to swing open on a dual pivot hinge.

Inside the unit was a power supply, a custom control PCBA with all the inputs/outputs and AI processing, and a raspberry pi computer. There was a fan intake on the back because it would get pretty warm inside the unit when in operation.Â
